Some Tips How To Write And Produce Dance Music |
- First choose what type of dance music you want to write. Listen to a large variety of music styles and find out you liked best. There's electronic, trance, club, and other styles and sub-genres of dance music.
- Start with a beat. It holds the song together and makes the music more danceable. For a good beat, listen to any dance music and to pick out the characteristics of the drums. Hi hat sounds good with straight eighth notes or sixteenths. Snare drum accents and syncopates the beat.
- Write the bass line. Dance music starts usually with the flashy bass line and is based on repetition.
- Begin layering. The more you progress in the song the more action there should be. As usual some layers are rhythms on the chord progression, others are the similar note which is periodically played despite the progression.
- Now listen how your music sounds. If something sounds wrong then it is up to you, try to figure it out. All music is based on experimentation and the same practice used over 400 years ago.
- Try to write lyrics to your music. Listen to some dance songs. You can try to rap or write two rapping lines that sound cool.
- Produce your song. Find someone who can record your music or transfer it onto a computer unless you can do it yourself.
